Montmorency is a suburb in Melbourne's north-east, about 18 km from the CBD, in the City of Banyule. It sits between Greensborough and Eltham on the edge of the green wedge, and its postcode is 3094.
Why is it called Montmorency?
The suburb takes its name from the Montmorency Estate, a 19th-century farm on the land. The estate borrowed the name from Montmorency in Val-d'Oise, France, where the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau once lived. There is more on the history here.
